While Sal was in the Badlands, her grandfather invited a pregnant woman to sit with them. Sal was afraid of pregnant women, and Sal recalled why. Before her mother went missing, she was pregnant. Sal broke her leg, and her mother had to carry her home. She went into labor that night. The baby died, and her mother was bleeding out. They had to transport her to the hospital, and they had to do surgery. Her mom would never be able to have another child, even though she wanted several.
